It guarantees marketing messages are always welcome because of permission-based marketing campaigns (opt-in) so messages are sent only to those who have requested them.

Voice to SMS (IVR) - Interactive Voice Response is interactive technology that allows a computer to detect voice and keypad inputs. IVR technology is used extensively in telecommunications and allows users that do not text to participate in SMS Marketing by receiving a text just by making a phone call.

Before the introduction of WAP, service providers had extremely limited opportunities to offer interactive data services.

Kiosk/Digital Signage - a Kiosk can be a booth providing a computer-related service, such as an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). SMS
SMS stands for Short Message Service. It is a technology that enables the sending and receiving of messages between mobile phones. SMS first appeared in Europe in 1992. It was included in the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) standards right at the beginning. Later it was ported to wireless technologies like CDMA and TDMA. The GSM and SMS standards were originally developed by ETSI. (ETSI) is the abbreviation for European Telecommunications Standards Institute. Now the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) is responsible for the development and maintenance of the GSM and SMS standards.

As suggested by the name "Short Message Service", the data that can be held by an SMS message is very limited. One SMS message can contain at most 140 bytes (1120 bits) of data, so one SMS message can contain up to:

  • 160 characters if 7-bit character encoding is used. (7-bit character encoding is suitable for encoding Latin characters like English alphabets.)
  • 70 characters if 16-bit Unicode UCS2 character encoding is used. (SMS text messages containing non-Latin characters like Chinese characters should use 16-bit character encoding.)

SMS text messaging also supports languages internationally. It works great with all languages supported by Unicode, including Arabic, Chinese and Japanese.

Besides text, SMS messages can also carry binary data. It is possible to send ringtones, pictures, operator logos, wallpapers, animations, business cards (e.g. VCards) and WAP (Mobile Web) configurations to a mobile phone with SMS messages.

One major advantage of SMS is that it is supported by 100% GSM mobile phones. Almost all subscription plans provided by wireless carriers include inexpensive SMS messaging service. Unlike SMS, mobile technologies such as WAP and mobile Java are not supported on many old mobile phone models.

IVR - Interactive Voice Response
Interactive voice response, or IVR, is a computerized phone system that enables a person, typically a telephone caller, to make a selection from a voice menu. The selection is made using touch-phone keypad entries or voice responses. The phone system plays pre-recorded voice prompts and the person typically presses a number on a telephone keypad to select the option associated with the voice prompt. This interaction allows the individual to communicate with the phone system and thus the computer system to either obtain information or to process a transaction.

In addition to interacting with a caller in a personalized, customized manner through sophisticated branching that models an expert clinician, IVR systems have many optional features: transfer to live operator; outbound paging; immediate faxing or E-mailing of custom information following the call; report generation; and interactive scripts written in multiple languages and presented in both genders. IVR systems offer several advantages for clinical care.

Opt-In
It is required that you have some form of opt-in from the members of your database. The opt-in process confirms that you are not sending SPAM to cell phones. For example, SPAM is sending out text messages to a cell phone that didn't request the text or agree to be included in the marketing campaign. bizM3 gives you the tools needed to make sure the Opt-in process is in compliance with the FCC regulations.
